It's all about that work-life balance, right? I stopped in the Adirondacks for the first time last week, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a long weekend getaway. It's only about a 6 hour drive, and there are endless opportunities to get "close to nature and far from stress." We were only there for two nights, but were able to walk Mirror Lake and downtown Lake Placid, try out some great breweries, and hike one of the 46 high peaks, Cascade Mountain. Having lived on the west coast, I was a bit skeptical, but the views from the summit were absolutely breathtaking. The area offers several other recreational opportunities like paddle boarding, kayaking, and camping, and we will be back! Check out Lake Placid Pub & Brewery and Big slide Brewery for that post-hike beer and comfort food, Farmhouse Cafe for breakfast, and Art Devlin's Olympic Motor Inn for affordable, clean accommodations with a view.
